Intervention and support for young people who display sexually harmful behaviour

Circles South East have delivered youth interventions for young people displaying sexually harmful behaviour for over ten years. Our portfolio includes assessments of risk and need; multi agency working and planning; youth circles; youth mentors; training and workshops for young people.

Our team are qualified and experienced practitioners with a strong commitment to safeguarding; multi-agency working, and trauma informed, child centred approaches which underpin everything that we do, these issues are a strong thread running through training, practice and CPD for all staff and volunteers. We run structured effective interventions tailored to the need of the young person to address the issues related to their harmful sexual behaviour, to support them to build a positive life for themselves and to access other services, education, employment or training as appropriate.

Support

Circles South East recognise neurodiversity plays a large part in people’s needs, regardless of age, and that to  put an individual in a support circle with three or four others might not be suitable, so we look to create the right environment  for each individual whilst maintaining the integrity of our model and shape the intervention accordingly.

We remain in regular contact with the relevant agencies with the individual, feedback regularly and invite them to quarterly reviews of the intervention to review progress and set objectives for the coming quarter. We also take part in multi agency risk management forums as part of our involvement feeding into the overall management of risk and planning of intervention.

We involve  the young person throughout this process so they are  involved in  setting objectives and have ownership of them.

This work goes hand in hand with our family work where, when appropriate, our trained and experienced staff undertake family assessments and run programmes to address systemic issues within the unit. such as Breaking the Cycle for protective adults and Restoring the Balance to help repair families after an individual has offended. We also offer support and interventions for sibling sexual harm. All our interventions aim to create positive change for the individual and their families whilst ensuring relevant safeguarding strategies are in place.

Circles South East also completes AIM3 Assessments to provide a pathway for supporting young people (12-18) who have engaged harmful sexual behaviour.
