Welcome to Circles South East
Tackling sexual harm | Empowering communities | Supporting recovery
Celebrating 30 years of Circles
2024 marks 30 years since the first Circle was formed by the Revd Harry Nigh in Canada. Since their inception, Circles have played a crucial role in supporting the risk management of people convicted of sexual offences, thereby helping to make communities safer.
A special commemorative event will be held in London during November 2024, to celebrate the ongoing work of Circles and to look back at their origins, impact and future. You can keep in touch with event updates by clicking on the link below
Circles South East empowers local communities to support the provision of prevention programmes, as well as therapeutic engagement with those persons affected by sexual harm and sexual violence including survivors, families and perpetrators. We take a partnering and co-working approach to provide opportunities for both the community and partner agencies, working together and delivering new and creative ways to maximise the healing and empowerment of those affected by sexual harm and sexual violence, while minimising recidivism and holding to account, those who harm others.
All our work is underpinned by the principle that resilient, confident people with positive relationships are unlikely to perpetrate sexual harm, can help protect vulnerable others from sexual harm, or are in a better position to recover from its after-effects.
The Circles South East approach - what sets us apart?
Circles SE is a public protection charity working in an inclusive way. Many of our services utilise the time and commitment of trained members of the community acting as volunteers. We seek to share understanding in a way that enables others to reduce the risk of sexual harm and violence.
The objective of our work is to relieve the need and promote the rehabilitation, treatment, education, and care of persons who have or are likely to commit offences, particularly sexual offences, against others, and the families of such persons and others affected by such offences.
We do this in a holistic way, developing services that assist both the perpetrators of sexual violence to desist and to help others who are victimised and affected to recover and re-take control of their lives.
A short introduction to Circles...
” Working in this circle has substantially reduced the likelihood of our Core Member re-offending. To me, as a survivor, that is the greatest reward I can imagine – that other girls are spared. “
